Summer Homework: Ask Questions, Be Heard, Learn More, Do More Summer camp, family vacations, outdoor concerts, reading in a hammock, hiking in the woods: why is it that our summers so naturally support the needs of the whole child while our school years don't? Our summers are filled with exploration and inquiry, action and discovery, while too many of our school days are filled with memorization and lecture, boredom and repetition. It's time for a different kind of summer homework! This summer, ask questions, like those in our Grade Your School and Community tool, of your school principal, your neighbors, and yourself. Use your answers to help you be heard by local, state, and national policymakers about what you want for kids in your community. Learn more about how you can ensure that all kids are healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged by visiting the Resource Clearinghouse. Do more to make sure that summer isn't the only time of year we support whole children. » Visit www.WholeChildEducation.org to see What's New(s), highlighting news articles and new resources. And, Spread the Word about the importance of a whole child education. Our children deserve it; our future demands it! |
Real Stories "We have made some progress with interventions for at-risk students but need to build a structured approach that will not allow students to fall through the cracks. We need to make quick interventions within the school day for students who are struggling so that they are not allowed to fall further behind." —James W., Alma, AR What's working in your school?
