It's Time to Start Talking About the Whole Child

Now that school is back in session, it's time to start the conversation about the whole child! It's time to ask yourself and others what it means to educate the whole child. It's time to consider what is working in your community and what is not. And it's time to align policies and practices in your schools and communities to ensure that each child is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.

We have some powerful new tools to help you bring the discussion to your own community. ASCD's new Community Conversations resource has background information on the whole child campaign, a PowerPoint presentation, and facilitator's guides to help you convene a conversation. Invite friends, neighbors, and community leaders—anyone with an interest in ensuring that all children receive a well-rounded education that will truly prepare them for 21st century opportunities.

» Plus, ASCD recently released a short video on YouTube that dynamically captures the message of the whole child. Watch the video, and share it with others.

The project, called Well AWARE (Achieve Wellness And Receive Energy), has goals to improve feelings of well-being by reducing the incidence of childhood obesity and improving physical activity and nutrition through education programs for students and their families in Delaware County schools and throughout the East Central Indiana community."
