Schools, districts, and state departments across the country are moving in new directions to address barriers to learning and teaching and to re-engage disconnected students. Achieve, in partnership with College Summit, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), and the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), released a series of action briefs on the role of school counselors, secondary school leaders, and elementary school leaders in the implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). This brief provides secondary school leaders with a deeper understanding of the CCSS and spells out their critical role in implementation.

This guide is a publication from National Education Association Health Information Network and Share Our Strength that seeks to promote alternative breakfast service models—breakfast in the classroom, grab n’ go and 2nd chance breakfast, among others—to educators, school professionals and those associated with the school community.  Within the guide is information about the benefits of school breakfast, new ways to increase school breakfast participation, useful tools for advocates and success stories from other districts. 

This report, conducted by Deloitte and the No Kid Hungry Center for Best Practices, shows that federal programs like school breakfast are important in the fight to end childhood hungry. Using third party studies and publicly available data, the report provided frameworks to connect outcomes from the School Breakfast Program with long-term benefits. The analysis shows there are dramatic potential impacts associated with the simple act of feeding kids a healthy school breakfast, including positive, large-scale outcomes in education, economics and health.

You can download PowerPoint files, information sheets, letters, and marketing materials and modify them to suit your specific needs.

The National School Climate Center (NSCC) School Climate Practice Briefs for Implementation and Sustainability present the latest in research and best practice for effective school climate reform from leading education experts. The 11 issues selected to be included in this set of practice briefs are based on NSCC’s decade-long work with the entire academic community—teachers, staff, school-based mental health professionals, students and parents—to improve a climate for learning. The briefs provide meaningful and relevant guidelines, programs and services that support a model for whole school improvement with a focus on school climate.

The Comprehensive School Climate Inventory (CSCI) is one of the most recognized and comprehensive school climate measures today that assesses to what extent students’, parents’ and school personnel feel safe, “connected’ and engaged in school life.  Developed over ten years of research and field-testing, the CSCI is a scientifically sound survey tool that thousands of schools, districts, networks of schools and several State Departments of Education (Ohio and Iowa) as well as the World Bank and foreign educational ministries have used.
